Last weekend we enjoyed the « Havana Fencing Grand Prix » which took place at the Palexpo Exhibition Centre halls in the city of Havana.
On the podium of the women’s sabre the two time Olympic Champion Di Francisca Elisa (ITA) won the gold medal against Deriglazova Inna who had claimed her first World Cup title in Hungary two years ago 15-5. Thibus Ysaora (FRA) lost on the semi-finals against Inna 10-15 and she shared the third position on the podium with Jeon Hee Sook (KOR) who lost 6-15 from the gold medalist Elisa on the semi-final.
In the men’s finals, Rigin Dmitry came out on top. The Russian foil fencer defeated the 20-year old american athlete Massialas Alexander who won bronze at the Juniors World Championships last year in Plovdiv 15-12. The bronze medal went to the two semi-finalists Garozzo Daniele (ITA) and Imboden Race (USA). Race defeated by Dmitry on the semi-final 13-15 and Daniele lost against Alexander 8-15.
All the athletes will meet again for the next foil Grand Prix in Shanghai on May 15.
