The United States of America Sweeps the Team Events at the Pan American Senior Zonal Championships

The United States won all six of the team gold medals at the Pan American Senior Zonal Championships in Lima, Peru.
The team competition, which included over 330 fencers representing 17 countries, took place at Polideportivo 1 from June 18-20.
In a field of 11 teams, the top-ranked United States defeated second-ranked Canada 45-38 to capture the gold in women’s team foil.
Lauren Scruggs was the star for the United States, scoring 20 of the 45 touches and registering a +9 indicator (20 touches for vs. 11 against).
In the semifinals, the Unties states defeated Chile 45-19 and Canada bested Brazil 45-21.
Brazil outhit Chile 43-41 to capture the bronze.

The United States took the gold in men’s team sabre when it beat Canada 45-36 to top a field of 14 teams.
In the semifinals, the United States defeated Mexico 45-26 and Canada beat Venezuela 45-39.
Venezuela scored a narrow 45-43 victory over Mexico to take the bronze.

The United States took the gold in men’s team epee defeating Venezuela 45-43 in a field of 14 teams.
Venezuela led the match 33-31 after 7 legs, but Gabriel Feinberg, the individual gold medallist, had a huge 9-2 8th leg to give the Americans the lead.
In the semifinals, the United States had a 40-26 lead over Colombia going into the 9th and final leg. Colombia’s closer John Edison Rodriquez had a massive 16-5 leg, but Ariel Simmons of the United States was able to hold on for a narrow 45-42 victory.
Venezuela defeated Brazil 35-27 in the other semifinal.
Brazil beat Colombia 45-34 to take the bronze.

The United States topped a field of 14 when they scored a decisive 45-29 victory over Argentina to capture the gold in women’s team sabre.
In the semifinals, the United States beat Mexico 45-28 while Argentina bested Canada 45-33.
Mexico defeated Canada 45-43 in a hard-fought to take the bronze. The difference in the match was the performance of the individual gold medallist, Natalia Botello of Mexico, as she had a +10 indicator (19 touches for vs. 9 against.)

The largest field was in women’s team epee with 17 teams, and the United States scored a commanding 41-31 victory over Canada to win the gold.
In the semifinals, the United States defeated Venezuela 24-15 and Canada beat Chile 45-38.
Venezuela edged Chile 44-41 to take the bronze.

The United States completed its sweep of the team medals when they defeated Canada 45-25 to capture the gold in men’s team foil. As the world-ranked #2, it was expected that the United States would top the field of 13 teams.
In the semifinals, the United States defeated Mexico 45-30 after an early 2-10 deficit, and Canada outhit Brazil 45-32.
Mexico won the bronze with a 45-36 victory over Brazil.
