Italy extended its dominance in foil at the Istanbul, Türkiye World Cup, sweeping both team titles a day after individual golds from Martina Favaretto and Filippo Macchi.
On the women’s side, the top-seeded Italians delivered a commanding 45–27 victory over sixth-ranked Spain in the final. Their run to gold featured emphatic wins over Romania (45–21) and China (45–28), followed by a hard-fought 45-39 semifinal triumph against third-ranked Japan.
Italy’s depth made the result feel almost inevitable. All four team members sit inside the world’s top ten: Favaretto (#2), Martina Batini (#3), Arianna Errigo (#5), and Anna Cristino (#10).
Spain reached the final by edging 15th-ranked Korea, 45–43, in a tight semifinal. Korea, in turn, had produced one of the tournament’s biggest surprises in the round of 16, defeating the top-seeded and reigning Olympic champions from Paris 2024 and World champions from Tbilisi 2025, the United States, by a 44–40 score.
Japan claimed the bronze medal with a 39–24 win over Korea.
