Fencers blog on www.fie.org about their road to London 2012

From now on, Dutch Epeeist Bas Verwijlen and Canadian sabre fencer Philippe Beaudry will post regularly in their personal blog on www.fie.org.

Fans and media will be able to follow the two athletes on their road to London 2012, gaining insights into their daily life as sportsmen, their travels, the Olympic qualification and the preparations for London 2012. There will be critical remarks where necessary and you can expect some funny stories about curious incidents, too.       

Bas and Philippe will answer some of the most frequently asked questions about fencing and also a lot of those that haven’t even been asked yet.

In short: on www.fie.org the two young Olympic hopefuls will take you on a tour behind the scenes of fencing.

El espadista Bas Verwijlen (NED, fecha de nacimiento 1.10.1973) fue medallista de plata en los Campeonatos del Mundo de Catania 2011. Tras su reciente 2º puesto en el Gran Premio de Doha (QAT), se encuentra en el mejor camino para clasificarse para sus segundos Juegos Olímpicos. En Pekín 2008, Bas llegó a cuartos de final y quedó en el 8º puesto.
 
Philippe Beaudry (CAN, born 16.03.1987) took a bronze medal at the Pan-American Championships 2011 and the gold medal at the Panamerican Games 2011. He placed 16th at the 2011 World Championships in Catania. At the world cup in Padua he reached again the last 16 which brings him in a very good position to qualify for London 2012. Despite his young age, London 2012 would be his second Olympic Games. In Beijing 2008, he finished 30th.
